Third edition of Horse Auction to be held at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club

Third edition of Horse Auction to be held at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club
The Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC), in collaboration with Mazad and Tattersalls, is delighted to announce the third edition of its Horse Auction which will take place in the parade ring at the Club on Monday 17th March.

First staged in 2023, REHC will once again host a sale for racehorses in training, providing owners and trainers with the opportunity to buy and sell horses through a trusted auction process. Mazad, Bahrain’s premier auction service provider, will oversee the transactions, while Tattersalls, renowned equine auctioneers with a history dating back to 1766, will conduct the auction through their representative, Harvey Bell.

At the 2024 edition of the auction, 38 horses were offered and 28 were successfully sold, generating a total turnover of BHD 27,350. The top lot, Scorpius (BHR), was purchased for BHD 3,800 by Ebrahim Khalil from Abdulla Fawzi Nass. Among the notable success stories from the sale was Pegasus (BHR), purchased for BHD 2,000, who has since secured a valuable victory in the Empire Limo Handicap Cup on 24th January, underlining the growing reputation of the auction as a marketplace for buying and selling quality racehorses.

The 2025 auction catalogue is set for publication on 12th March.

Yusuf Buheji, CEO of the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club, commented:

“The continued success of this auction highlights its importance in Bahrain’s racing landscape. With the support of Mazad and Tattersalls, we are ensuring that owners and buyers have access to a professional and transparent platform that enhances the industry.

“We are committed to growing this initiative and developing further opportunities for new owners to enter and support Bahrain’s horseracing sector.”

Talal Aloraifi, CEO of Mazad, added:

“The REHC Horse Auction has quickly become a cornerstone event in Bahrain’s racing calendar, offering a dynamic and competitive platform for buyers and sellers. The strong results from last year reflect the growing confidence in the process and the quality of horses being presented.

“As we enter the third edition, our continued collaboration with REHC ensures that this sale remains a trusted marketplace, providing transparency and value while contributing to the long-term growth of Bahrain’s racing sector.”

Harvey Bell, Head of Bloodstock at Tattersalls, stated:

“Tattersalls are delighted to again be assisting the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club for the third renewal of their horses in training sale.

“The sale has grown year on year, in line with the significant growth of horseracing seen in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The continued strong relationships with recognised international organisations such as the REHC is of great importance and value to Tattersalls.”
